Australia History

Australia is one of the oldest and most successful cricket teams in the world. Its international Test history began on 15 March 1877, when Australia played England at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) in what is officially recognized as the first-ever Test match. Australia won that historic game by 45 runs, with Charles Bannerman scoring 165, the first century in Test cricket. Australia has built a remarkable record across international cricket. In the Men’s Cricket World Cup, Australia have won the trophy six times — in 1987, 1999, 2003, 2007, 2015 and 2023. They have also won the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup once (2021) and the ICC Champions Trophy twice (2006 and 2009). Their long history, major tournament success and strong Test record have made Australia one of the most decorated teams in international cricket.
