BCL: Habibur Rahman Sohan Breaks Mashrafe Mortaza’s Record for Fastest List A Cricket Ton

In a thrilling encounter at Cox’s Bazar on Thursday, Habibur Rahman Sohan stole the show by smashing the fastest hundred in List A cricket against Central Zone in the ongoing Bangladesh Cricket League (BCL) one-day tournament.

Sohan’s blistering 49-ball century powered his team to an eight-wicket victory, surpassing the previous record held by former Bangladesh captain Mashrafe Mortaza, who had scored a 50-ball ton in 2016.

Chasing a target of 202, Sohan came out all guns blazing, hitting seven fours and eight sixes en route to his record-breaking century. His explosive performance left the opposition bowlers shell-shocked as he reached his hundred in just 49 deliveries.

This was Sohan’s second List A ton in 18 matches, and his impressive strike rate of over 130 in 50-over cricket speaks volumes about his talent. The 24-year-old had previously made headlines in the 2023 Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) while playing for Khulna Tigers, notably for his explosive 9-ball-30 against Fortune Barishal.

Although Sohan’s innings fell short of the all-time List A record set by Australia’s Jake Fraser-McGurk, who scored a hundred off just 29 balls earlier this year, his achievement is a testament to his formidable batting prowess and potential as a rising star in Bangladeshi cricket.
