Rinku Singh Picks Pakistan and Snubs West Indies in His T20 WC Semifinal Predictions

India star Rinku Singh has revealed his picks for the semifinalists of the ongoing ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024. The ninth edition of the T20 World Cup, which kicked off earlier this month, features 20 teams competing across the USA and the West Indies. These teams are divided into four groups of five, with the top two from each group advancing to the Super 8s, from which the four semifinalists will emerge.

In a video posted by Kolkata Knight Riders, Rinku Singh named his semifinalists for the tournament. He began by selecting Team India as the first semifinalist. Following this, he chose defending champions England, 2021 winners Australia, and the previous edition’s runners-up Pakistan, completing his list of four.

Interestingly, three of Singh’s picks—India, Pakistan, and England—reached the semifinals in the last edition of the T20 World Cup. The fourth team in 2022 was New Zealand, but Singh believes Australia will replace them this year.

India’s Campaign So Far

India has started their T20 World Cup campaign on a high note, securing a comprehensive victory against Ireland. In their opening match on Wednesday, June 5th, the Rohit Sharma-led side bowled out Ireland for a mere 96 runs in 16 overs. Hardik Pandya shone with the ball, taking 3 wickets for 27 runs, while Arshdeep Singh and Jasprit Bumrah picked up 2 wickets each.

In response, India chased down the target within 13 overs, losing just two wickets. Captain Rohit Sharma led from the front, scoring an impressive 52 runs before retiring hurt. India’s next match is a high-stakes encounter against Pakistan on Sunday, June 9th.

Rinku Singh’s semifinal predictions have stirred discussions, especially with his inclusion of Pakistan and the exclusion of the West Indies, reflecting the dynamic and unpredictable nature of T20 cricket. As the tournament progresses, it will be interesting to see how his predictions hold up.
