USA vs PAK: Is it Catch of The Tournament? Steven Taylor’s Stunning Catch of Mohammad Rizwan

On Thursday, June 6th, Steven Taylor took a spectacular catch, touted as a contender for the catch of the tournament, to dismiss Mohammad Rizwan during the T20 World Cup 2024 match between the USA and Pakistan at Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas.

USA captain Monank Patel won the toss and chose to bowl first, a decision that quickly paid dividends. Mohammad Rizwan began his innings confidently, hitting a six off Nosthush Kenjige in the first over. However, his stay at the crease was short-lived.

In the second over, left-arm pacer Saurabh Netravalkar delivered a good length ball that swung away at the last moment, inducing an edge from Rizwan. The ball seemed destined to fall short of the first slip, but Steven Taylor made a diving effort to his right, catching the ball just inches above the ground, and thus securing a crucial breakthrough for his team.

The exceptional catch left fans and commentators in awe.

At the time of reporting, Pakistan was struggling at 26 for 3 in the fifth over. Following Rizwan’s dismissal, Nosthush Kenjige removed Usman Khan for 3, and Ali Khan took the wicket of Fakhar Zaman for 11, putting the USA firmly in control of the match.

The USA, co-hosting the tournament, aims to build on their momentum after a convincing victory over Canada last week. A win against Pakistan would significantly boost their chances of advancing beyond the group stage.
